Photographer's highlight #18 John Cobalt

This is John Colbalt form Florida, USA. He is primarily a wildlife photographer but with a different twist, using minimal backgrounds.
Starting off as a painter, John found photography later in life after finding himself drawn to wildlife and nature photographs on the internet.

To start with John tried to create similar types of photograph using, as he says, “a really terrible camera”. So after trial and error he began to develop his own style of work using various techniques and ideas, just as he would have when painting or drawing.
To me, I can express myself more through photography, rather than painting or drawing. I'm still learning and trying to figure out what I'm doing.”

A couple of artists that inspire John are Nick Brandt and Jason M. Peterson

I find John's work just simply stunning. I feel that he has a very definite style and the way he uses editing really add to the image.

You can find John's fantastic Instagram gallery at instagram.com/jcobalt.

"This is a photo I found while deleting pics on my card. As usual, I took out the background and added a little noise. I used vscocam for the filter."
