Big World Picture: Photographer's highlight #17 Yifat Ashkenazi # גולת כותרת 17 יפעת האשכנזית של הצלם

Yifat is a photographer from Isreal. Yifat gained her BFA Degree in photography from the Bezalel Academy of art and Design in Jerusalem. After completing her studies she went on the work as the in-house stills photographer for Israeli TV station “Telad” shooting publicity shots portraits and general documentation, a post she held for 10 years.

There are many influences that Yifat has and her inspirations are wide and diverse, ranging from photography to painting and design. So of the photographers that Yifat finds inspirational are Henri Cartier Bresson, NanGoldin, Walker Evans, Diane Arbus, Eugene Smith, Weegee and the Israeli photojournalist Alex Levac. She also finds influence from painters such as Edward Hopper, Egon Schiele, Toulouse Lautrec and Modeigliani, but these are only a few of the many artists and photographers that Yifat draws inspiration from.

Yifat loves to use her mobile phone as a way to be loose and creative, saying “My phone cam is my toy and Instagram is my playground, a welcome change from the serious photography world and the heavy equipment I was used to.”

Photography will always be a great love of her life and from looking at her work on Instagram I feel the passion that Yifat has for photography. Her work is dreamy, atmospheric and often full of an almost secret narrative. Using Apps, she has managed to create these wonderfully beautiful images and they really do make just sit and ponder as I look at her Instagram gallery.
